have patience. spring will come

β€œThe two most powerful warriors are patience and time.”
- Leo Tolstoy

Yesterday my brother told me he felt down about how his internship recruiting season was going.

First, omg how precious πŸ’•

He never comes to me for emotional support. I melted, and got all big-brotherly and concerned on his behalf.

Second, let me proceed to invalidate his emotions, as older people do from time to time. It's irrational for him to worry because:

Computer science students, given enough time and effort, get good software engineering jobs. It's a winnable game. I know because I've been a college sophomore looking for internships. I also know because I've met a lot of bums that have succeeded at this game πŸ˜‚

And you know what else? More generally, people, given enough time and effort, get what they want.

It's true many games don't feel winnable in the moment.

It felt impossible to get a role in product management, but it isn't. I spent four years trying and failing for product management jobs. I almost gave up. But I did get the job. It was just a matter of time.

keep going

What I'm trying to say is, have strength πŸ’ͺ and have patience too.

Because no matter how long your winter:

Spring will come
